Has anyone else noticed Wind Turbines going up in their area?

Several have sprung-up around the area between Baza and Zujar, but I haven't seen them turning yet.

Perhaps cheaper electricity is on the way?

Are wind turbines the best alternative to the conventional methods of generating electricity? They are costly to build and install;consume a lot of energy in manufacture when fabrication including preparation of all of the raw materials is considered; they can only function whe the wind blows; have no means of storing energy produced at off peak useage times.
In general, the same issues apply to photovoltaic cells which have the additional disadvantage of being less than 20% efficient. This leads typically to a payback time in excess of 25 years to recoup the costs of panels and installation.
Any thoughts on biomass, biogas, biofuel and other carbon neutral alternatives?
Regards.

On the last weekend of March Spain generated a maximum of 40.8% of their power requirements by wind. We were out then and it was certainly windy. Last year wind overtook hydropower generation too.

Don't want to DIY take a look at www.cuevademama.co.uk to see how the pros do it!
